How the name works.

Name anatomy.
Editorial readSaathi is a Hindi word meaning companion or friend. It's the kind of word you'd use for someone who walks alongside you, not just someone you know. The brand sells a product many women use in private, often without much conversation around it.
Naming it after companionship reframes the product as something that's on your side rather than one more necessity to manage. The word is also short, easy to say in any Indian language context, and warm without strain. There's no construction trick here.
The name is just a Hindi word doing straightforward emotional work.
How it sounds.
Fig. 3Saathi comes from a Hindi and Urdu word meaning companion, and that inheritance is the whole story of how the name lands in an English-speaking mouth. SAH-thi, two syllables, soft throughout, nothing to snag on. But the "th" is where an English speaker can slip.
That small gap is not a flaw so much as a signal. The name is not pretending to be an English coinage, and the slight uncertainty in saying it out loud is the cost of borrowing a real word from a real language instead of inventing one.
Buyer profile.
Fig. 4The single-use disposables that have lived in her bathroom by default are what this purchase finally retires. Saathi is the brand she finds when she types "plastic-free period products" into a search bar and wants something that isn't a startup science project. She doesn't need convincing that conventional pads are a problem; she already knows.
What she's looking for is a product that works as well as what she's used to, so she doesn't have to treat every cycle as an experiment. The buyer who picks Saathi has often already tried one eco-brand that disappointed her and is giving the category a second shot.
What it refuses.
Negative space- R·01eco-label vocabulary on the name itself
- R·02clinical or medical register
- R·03founder-year heritage scaffolding
- R·04nature-word ingredient cues (bamboo, cotton, leaf)
- R·05empowerment-slogan framing
Every refusal is a position a competitor still occupies. The white space the name claims is built from what it declines.
Direct competitors.
Read against the shelfThe category Saathi operates in is full of clinical-sounding names and brands that lead with certifications and ingredient lists. Saathi's name sidesteps all of that.
