§ 01

How the name works.

Fig. 2
animal symbol + atmospheric contrast pairing

Put a tiger and a mist in the same name and your head does something with it, even if it can't quite settle on what.

§ 02

Name anatomy.

Editorial read

Tiger Mist is two words doing very different jobs. Tiger is an animal that turns up in fashion branding whenever a label wants to suggest something aggressive, fast, or visually striking. It's been borrowed so many times it's almost a genre.

Mist is softer, almost the opposite. Mist blurs edges, softens contrast, creates atmosphere. Put the two together and you get a name that pulls in two directions at once.

The tiger gives it teeth. The mist gives it mystery. Whether that tension was planned or arrived at by feel, it produces a name that doesn't fully settle, which in women's fashion is usually a feature rather than a problem.

§ 03

How it sounds.

Fig. 3

Tiger Mist joins one hard, snapping word to one soft, breathy one. TIGER lands with a bite on the front end, then MIST trails off into almost nothing, just an exhale. Say it out loud and you feel that shift in your own mouth, a growl that softens before it finishes.

Nothing about the spelling causes trouble and nothing about the pronunciation needs a second attempt, so there's not much friction to point at. The interesting part is the pairing itself, a print-heavy, loud clothing brand wrapped inside a name that goes quiet at the end.

§ 04

Buyer profile.

Fig. 4

Already walked past the dress she wanted on a fast-fashion rack because it looked like exactly that, cheap and disposable. Tiger Mist is for the buyer who has a real event on the calendar and a budget ceiling, and who wants something that photographs well without reading as off-the-rack. She is not buying basics.

She is buying a specific look she saw somewhere and needs to find a version of at a price that doesn't require planning. The brand wins when she lands on the product page and the photo looks expensive enough that she stops comparing.

§ 05

What it refuses.

Negative space
  • R·01resort-destination naming (Bali, Malibu, Riviera)
  • R·02sustainable-fabric lead
  • R·03inclusive-sizing as the headline positioning
  • R·04surf-heritage or surf-culture cues
  • R·05minimalist Scandi-neutral aesthetic vocabulary

Every refusal is a position a competitor still occupies. The white space the name claims is built from what it declines.

§ 06

Direct competitors.

Read against the shelf

Fashion is a category where the brand name ends up on the tag, in the caption, in the bio, said out loud at the party when someone asks where the dress is from. Tiger Mist travels well in that context.

What their name doesBorrowed everyday word that reframes the mundane as aspirational, with a quiet anti-convention tone.
How Tiger Mist differsTiger Mist is more charged and visual where Monday is deliberately flat and ironic.
